Ahab's Revenge

I've been ordering Ahab's Revenge for over five years now and still loving it! Another reviewer (with clearly more expertise than I have in profiling coffee) compared the flavor to a very dark chocolate, and that rings true to me. I think anyone who enjoys a dark roast and also likes 85%+ dark chocolate would enjoy this blend. For anyone wondering about the high caffeine content, I once reached out to support about what exactly that meant (I was pregnant and looking to keep my caffeine intake in check), and they estimated it's about 50% more caffeine than most coffee.

We get through precisely one 5-pound bag of Ahab’s a month, and consider it a very good value. We are quite particular about exceptional dark coffee, and this blend checks every box. I try new coffees frequently; but this one is our daily go-to blend, and we love it.

I don’t find myself jittery or anxious after several cups; it definitely provides plenty of caffeine, but not in intimidating quantities. If you are sensitive to caffeine, one cup should suffice. If you work in health care, chug away, I say! “If some is good, more is better; and too much is best of all!”

I was shocked that I liked this cup of coffee! I have never been a Dark Roast guy, I've always preferred a Light Roast pour over. However, I wanted to try a Coffee with Robusta beans. This was the only one at my local Co-Op and I must say it is delicious! I definitely felt a little caffeine buzz after one cup so I don't need to have more than one cup in the morning, versus my typical 2! Which is nice!

Method!
I did a pour over method, 30g to 18oz of water, which yields me 16oz for drinking with 2 oz of wet coffee grind and filter (I use two filters 1 metal and 1 paper cone) . Temp 205-195F with a beginning 30sec bloom.

Taste!
It's definitely dark! But not flat! It's almost like a 90% cacao chocolate bar. It's very "very" dark chocolate sweet , kinda "smokey" with brighter more bitter tones. Which I like! It also has a good after taste, it lingers but it is subtle.

Plus! The beans are gorgeous! Beautiful shiny "coffee oils" just look gorgeous

Strong, rich, flavorful, satisfying.

This is the best coffee ever, full bodied, lots of flavor and lots of caffeine. I drink 3-6 cups per day and love it. Highly recommended

This is the only reason I wake up in the morning.
