Certified B Corporations® are companies that use business as a force for good and Dean's Beans became one in 2018 with a score of 99.

We upped our score in 2022 to 110 when we were recertified. Decent progress but we knew we could do more.

We’re excited to announce that in 2026, Dean’s Beans recertified again and earned a B Impact Score of 168.5!

That score makes us the highest scoring coffee company in the world!

What is a B Corp?

B Corporations are leaders of the global movement of people using business as a force for good. There are over 10,000 Certified B Corporations from more than 130 industries in 190+ countries with 1 unifying goal - to redefine success in business by putting people and the planet before profit. 

The Certification Process

B Corp certification, administered by the non-profit B Lab, evaluates companies' impact in the categories of governance, workers, community, and the environment. It’s a comprehensive, rigorous, transparent process that looks at how a company operates in the real world and requires that those commitments are built into the structure of the company itself. 

How is The Score Determined?

Certification is based on the B Impact Assessment (BIA) and companies are evaluated in five categories   

• Mission integration in governance structure

• Employee well-being, fair labor practices and workplace culture

• Community impact

• Environmental stewardship and sustainability

• Positive product impact to customers

Beyond those five areas, certification also requires:

• Score of at least 80/200 on the BIA

• Accountability to all stakeholders

• Transparency through publishing B Corp score on the B Corp Directory

Being a B Corp also means that Dean's Beans will always engage in socially just and environmentally responsible trade, and continue to take care of our employees and neighbors, our farmers and the earth.
