About Dean’s Beans Organic Coffee
Dean’s Beans is a 31-year old Fair Trade, organic coffee roaster based in Orange, MA. We are a pioneer in the field of social responsibility, and dedicated to social justice, sustainable practices, living income for coffee farmers and our workers, and environmental stewardship. We create meaningful change through ethical business practices rooted in respect for the Earth, the farmers, our co-workers and coffee drinkers everywhere!

In addition to buying and roasting certified organic, and Fair Trade coffees from 11 countries around the globe, our work includes innovative direct development programs with our coffee cooperative partners. This approach, called People-Centered Development, focuses on the real needs of coffee farming communities for the necessities of life – clean water, reliable health care, education, economic opportunity, and more. Our social and environmental initiatives are the lifeblood of our company, and coffee is the vehicle that allows us to contribute and take action.
When the founder, Dean Cycon, retired in the summer of 2023, he sold the business to the employees and Dean’s Beans became a 100% worker owned cooperative. After two years, employees who work a minimum of 20 hours per week are eligible to apply to purchase a membership share and become a co-owner of the company. Our solid team is committed to carrying on the company legacy of putting people and the planet before profit. And, we are profitable!
