Empowering Youth in Guatemala!
Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Agroforestry Build a Better Future.
We've been supporting development programs in Guatemala that are addressing the issues the communities care about. One such issue is keeping young people invested in their farming communities and offering them real opportunities for a positive future.
Asobagri Cooperative in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, is doing an amazing job in this area. Asobagri's youth programs develop practical entrepreneurship skills for teens in the coffee business. Youth also learn Agroforestry - sustainable cultivation practices that protect the Earth while improving yield and coffee quality. Teens are learning skills to help them build better, more prosperous futures in their home communities.
The next initiative is scaling organic fertilizer production to further protect the environment and sell across the region! Dean's Beans has been supporting these Agroforestry and Entrepreneurship programs since 2017.
Once again, Coffee meets Mission. Your coffee purchases allow you to brew great coffee while creating real change. Drink deep, friends!
Young People Leading the Way
Keeping young people on farms is so important for the future of coffee, and buying a pound of Los Jovenes helps to do just that.
Birds are migrating south for the winter. Our Bird Friendly Guatemalan coffees help ensure their habitats are intact when they get there!
All of our coffee is shade grown under native canopy, which is inherently good for migratory birds. However, a few coops have taken it a step further to get officially certified by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center as Bird Friendly® Certified Coffee. ASOBAGRI in Guatemala is certified SMBC Bird Friendly®. We helped with administration and the cost and want to do the same for the rest of our coops, since we know they'd pass with flying colors.
