We brought coffee to Air Traffic Control!

Introducing the Tzeltal-Tzotzil Cooperative

We’re thrilled to highlight our newest cooperative partnership, the Tzeltal-Tzotzil Cooperative in Chiapas, Mexico. Though we’ve only been working together for three years, the relationship is already full of energy, collaboration, and innovation. We met their General Manager, Angel, at the Specialty Coffee Association Expo in April, where he shared their vision for building stronger communities through coffee.

Tzeltal-Tzotzil may be one of the smallest cooperatives we work with, but their commitment to progress is inspiring. They recently purchased a truck to reach remote villages, helping them not only collect coffee but also deliver clean water, a powerful example of how resourcefulness and care for community go hand in hand.

Right now, we’re especially excited about a new project with the women members of the cooperative. With fewer than 400 producers, 29 women farmers are stepping forward to strengthen both their coffee and their voices in the community. This includes providing them with motorized de-pulpers, raised drying beds, and training in selective harvesting, all tools that improve consistency and quality. Together, these efforts are not only improving their coffee, but also represent new opportunities for women to learn, lead, and shape the future of their cooperative.

The work happening in Chiapas reflects the spirit of People-Centered Development: investing in tools, knowledge, and equity so communities can achieve their goals and thrive on their own terms. With every cup of this smooth, balanced coffee, you’re tasting the care and craft of indigenous Maya farmers, and supporting their vision for a stronger, more resilient future.
