This Coffee's Story

Our story with Atsabe began in 2009, when Dean’s Beans became the first roaster to source coffee directly from this remote community. What started as a trading partnership has grown into a true relationship built on trust and shared purpose. Together, we’ve supported schools, youth programs that open doors to opportunity, and rural health clinics that provide life-saving care.

During our visit to Timor in the fall of 2023 we visited nearby Malabe, where the one small clinic is a lifeline for farming families who once had to travel hours for even the most basic treatment. By walking alongside the farmers of Atsabe since 2009, we’re working together on real solutions that strengthen the community today, and for generations to come.

Coffee from East Timor has a flavor all its own, spicy, with a lively hint of acidity and rich chocolate tones. It’s a taste that reflects the rugged mountains where it is shade grown, and the strength of the farmers who cultivate it. Coffee grows almost wild here, tall and scraggly, with some plants almost 75 years old!

Our favorite blend we return to time and again

Our favorite blend we return to time and again. Timor Atsabi has just the right taste and we drink it every morning! We are long-time Dean's customers and this blend is one we've ordered the most! Thank you Dean's Beans!

My favorite bean

Every time I drink this coffee, I am reminded why coffee is so delicious. It is velvet smooth, not overly acidic, and bold. It is my absolute favorite. The perfect cup.

Great for Cold Brew Too

Year round my wife and I love drinking cold brew made at home with Deans Beans. So normally we get a limited edition to drink hot sporadically. But Timor Astabe makes the best cold brew! That and of course Dean's Beans cold brew blend, we get them both equally.

Laughing Man coffee

I bought this coffee because I am in love with the little laughing man from this co-op. He is so cute and happy he makes me want to smile as I drink his coffee. And a delicious coffee it is! I don't know much about cupping notes, don't really taste chocolate or spicy, but it is full bodied with a heavenly aroma. It is very smooth and maybe somewhat sweet with a great aftertaste. Tell Mr Gomes I love his coffee! It makes me happy.

Delightful - it's our new favorite!

We received the Timor Atsabe roast in a sampler as a Christmas gift from a friend who knows how much we LOVE coffee. We are typically fans of a medium bodied Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, but this is our new favorite! We hand grind it and brew it in a French press or pour over, either way it is delightful!

Wonderful Medium Roast

I prefer dark roasts, but I thought I'd try this since it was from a region I enjoy. Wow! This is delightful and bold all at the same time.

The Best Coffee

We've tried a variety of coffees, but nothing compares to Timor Atsabe. We first ran into it through our local co-op (they were running a special on it), and we've been in love ever since. A perfect coffee for any purpose!

Timor Atsabe is a favorite!

I've tried many blends of medium and medium-dark roasts and always come back to Timor Atsabe. It is a favorite in our home
